Nurse in court over N1.2m land fraud A 55-year-old nurse, Angelina Ajiki, was on Monday arraigned over a N1.2 million land fraud. The accused, who resides at No. 7, Kayode St., Iju Area of Lagos, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, obtaining by false pretences and theft, before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos. The prosecutor, Cpl. Innocent Odugbo, told the court that Ajiki committed the offences between Oct. 9, 2012 and May 13, 2013, at the Iju Area of Lagos. Odugbo alleged that the accused and her accomplices, who are still at large, offered to sell a half plot of land to Mr Wilson Akioyomen. The prosecutor said that the accused fraudulently obtained N1.2million from the complainant as part-payment for the land transaction. He told the court that the representation was false as there was no plot of land, adding that the accused had converted the money to her use. Odugbo said that the offences contravened Sections 285 and 312 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. Section 312 prescribes 15 years imprisonment for anyone found guilty of obtaining by false pretences. The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge. The Magistrate, Mrs Mulikat Ali-Balogun, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N1million, with two sureties in like sum. Ali-Balogun adjourned the case till March 13, for mention.
