Nutrition EXPERT (2 Months) HARARE ZIMBABWE ACF is a registered charity, founded in 1979. Action Contre la Faim operates in 41 countries. The international network of Action Contre la Faim is represented in Paris, London, Madrid, New York and Montreal. Teams in the field combat hunger on four fronts: nutrition, food security, health, water and sanitation. ACF is seeking to fill the vacancy of Nutrition Expert will be based in Harare. The position reports to the Country Director. The overall role of this position is to provide technical input and oversight to nutrition activities integrated in all mission projects and ensure collaboration with other actors at national and provincial level on all matters related to nutrition issues. The Nutrition Expert will need to ensure an analysis of the country nutrition situation and develop relevant programs to address the issues related to nutrition in an integrated manner with other sectors (FSL, WASH, Care Practices & Mental Health). The Broad Objectives of the position will be Objective 1. Strengthen ACF Zimbabwe Nutrition strategic positioning and programming - Building on the existing strategy, refine ACF positioning in Nutrition in Zimbabwe - Explore needs and feasibility of other relevant nutrition interventions in compliance with ACF strategy in terms of Nutrition for the following years - Coordination with other actors of Nutrition - Develop integrated programs targeting chronic malnutrition in cooperation with the Food Security and WASH Departments - Develop partnerships with local and international health partners Objective 2: Survey the medico-nutritional situation in the country: - Make rapid evaluations in emergency situations ; - Carry out nutritional surveys ; - Compile data and analyse the medico-nutritional situation - Visit pilot projects. Objective 3. Reinforce ACF capacity to develop support programme to Ministry of Health and Child Welfare - In the perspective of a re-engagement by donors of the government institutions, position ACF on direct support to the MoH on Nutrition activities - Be pro-active in participating in Task Forces (e.g. surveillance, national guidelines, MoH personnel training) Objective 4. Develop a strategy to enhance ACF’s effectiveness in tackling stunting across project areas. - Liaise with stakeholders to identify coherent programming to support the fight against chronic malnutrition - Work with WaSH and FS staff to develop longer term strategic interventions aimed at tackling chronic malnutrition - Promote strategic partnerships to fund and support the development of understanding of issues pertaining to chronic malnutrition Objective 5. Act as focal point on Nutrition and HIV within ACF Zimbabwe - Enhance nutrition knowledge and focus for all ACF teams - Enforce HIV mainstreaming in all ACF programmes - Ensure clear understanding within ACF of inter-relativity of SAM and stunting and the impact of HIV/AIDS and to promote understanding to stakeholders - Develop HIV awareness for all ACF teams - Represent ACF in HIV and other health related forums Objective 6. Develop evidence based indicators for nutrition outcome - Improve and define the evidence based indicators for nutrition outcome of ACF strategy in Zimbabwe - Lead the research projects related to Micronutrient impact Objective 7. Position ACF as a leading agency on the standardisation of nutrition surveys and strengthen surveillance in the nutrition sector in Zimbabwe. - Following the 2010 CAP sheet approved by cluster on SMART roll out in Zimbabwe, ensure that ACF leads the process within the cluster - Actively participate in the Surveillance & Assessment Task Force chaired by UNICEF and FN - Represent ACF in various forums concerned with nutrition (priority on cluster) in order to increase visibility and networking opportunities between different stakeholders (government and non-government) in the nutrition sector. - Attend monthly cluster and sub-groups on specific technical issues Strengthen nutrition team capacity for effective project management Mentor existing ACF nutrition staff to ensure strong programming and project imple Education and Experience: - Masters Degree in Nutrition, Medicine, Public Health or relevant associated field - A minimum of 3 years managerial humanitarian experience, both in emergency and post crisis settings - A minimum of 2 years experience in implementing and managing nutrition programs (TFC, OTP, SFP, community mobilization, trainings etc Required skills - Proven knowledge on HIV is an asset - Familiar with humanitarian donors – extensive proposal writing experience - Able to coordinate easily with partners & national/local authorities - Comfortable with recruitment and training - Organized, efficient, autonomous, team spirit - Excellent command of English, written and spoken, and of Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Internet - Ability to work in a multicultural environment Applicants should clearly indicate the post applied for on the envelope or subject line (for email).
