Nwachukwu Philips: I watched my mother wash her clothes this morning and something got me thinking about life.The clothes were very dirty before the washing began,sitting down on the step close to where she sat,i saw the clothes as us,humans,yeah,we get dirty and stained with lifes problems and worries.Then she put the clothes into the water with detergent.I smiled to myself and pictured the water and detergent mixture as the turbulent times we face while trying to get rid of the problems we got stained with.While washing,she used her hand to stir and shake the water,again,i smiled,without letting her see me.I thought to myself, the stirring of the water represents when it gets tougher,problems coming from all directions,shaking us,trying to get us off balance,dont forget,were still inside the water,trying to get rid of the problems.Hold on! The darkest hour is just before the dawn. She then took the clothes into her hand and squeezed it,trying to bring out the water,i chuckled,that got me a picture of the problems trying to choke life out of us.She continued till there was no more water left.She glanced at me,looking sternly at the clothes.She called me and asked me what i was staring at.I replied nothing,then she continued.It took a long time before she put the clothes into another bucket of clean,fresh water.You know it took her that long,cos she was also squeezing other clothes while the others waited.I almost laughed to her hearing on realising what that meant,no matter the problem you face,know that other people are also facing the same problem,have patience.Finally,she rinsed the clothes and hung them.I almost jumped off my seat.The clothes that were once dirty,had become like new.I smiled,so all the process and procedures was aimed at making the clothes new,clean and fresh.I got excited inside when the clothes were hung out.I rushed into the house,grabbed my phone and logged in. I realised something this morning,Problems and troubles,just like those stains on those clothes are meant to strengthen,clean and freshen us. My mother looked at me,surprised,she knows im an unusual girl but she didnt realise what i saw this morning.Did you get it? Always remember the clothe theory.
