Nyako, Oshiomhole, Obasanjo in Aso Rock for Council of State meeting By Chesa Chesa, Snr Correspondent, Abuja Embattled Governors Murtala Nyako of Adamawa state and Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state joined their colleagues and former heads of state, including Olusegun Obasanjo to attend the National Council of State meeting in Aso Rock, presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan. The Council of State is Nigeria’s highest advisory body and comprises President; Vice-President; former heads of state and Presidents; Senate President; Speaker of House of Representatives; Chief Justice of Nigeria; governors; and Attorney-General of the Federation. Other ex-leaders in attendance were Yakubu Gowon; Shehu Shagari; Ernest Shonekan; Ibrahim Babangida; and Abdusalami Abubakar. Interestingly, Nyako is facing impeachment proceedings initiated by the Adamawa state Assembly and was erroneously reported by a national newspaper to have travelled to Saudi Arabia after tendering his resignation. Some of his colleagues clustered around him immediately he entered the meeting hall, obviously to get first-hand details of events in Adamawa State. Oshiomhole is also battling to hold together a State Assembly divided along opposing party lines and sitting at different venues. Agenda of the Council of State meeting was not made public but prevailing insecurity in the country is obviously on the cards as defence and service chiefs were seen in the ante room of the Council Chamber as the session commenced, obviously waiting to be invited in to brief the meeting. Former Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari was absent when the meeting started. Also at the meeting are the Senate President, David Mark; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal; National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki; and former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Mohammad Uwais. Governors of Kaduna, Delta, Niger, Ebonyi, Bayelsa, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Cross Rivers, Kebbi, Gombe, Enugu and Acting governor of Taraba were at the meeting as well deputy governors of Benue, Jigawa, Ondo, Ogun and Yobe states.
