Nyuh Kuning, Bali, just after lunch, November 22, 2013: Oh, I just remember that JFK was assassinated 50 years ago. How tragic. What could have been. I was just about to go out for lunch when Pak came back on his motor scooter and told me hed made lunch for me. Both Pak and Wayan, like many Balinese, cook. The Balinese dont always eat together, so Pak had already eaten, and I ate while he sat on his little porch making some of the Bali Bhudda shopping bags. I had thought about going out and about again this afternoon, but I decided Id take an afternoon to relax, slow down, and enjoy life the Bali way. Also, I bought a classic work on Bali from 1937 called Island of Bali. It was written by an artist who lived here for 3 years. The book is still considered the most authoritative work on Bali, its people and culture. So I may as well take a journey back through history this afternoon, maybe take a nap, and learn a lot more about this place than Ill ever learn in this month Ill be here, for the first time of course.
