O Fortuna, velut luna, statu variabilis. We are part of the circle of life. As we sit here in our quiet home in the north woods, we get to observe nature in its ever changing state. Yesterday, while sitting at the dining table next to the big picture window that protects us from the elements while giving us a fantastic view, I happened to look up just in time to see a big, healthy wolf come out of the woods by the beaver dam and lope across the frozen pond in that easy gait that eats up the miles at minimum energy. Sorry, no photo, but its recorded in my mind. Next to the house are fisher tracks. The aggressive little red squirrel who dominated the feeder is gone. So are the squirrels from the big white pine. Now they are part of the fisher. The magpie comes and goes like a phantom, barely showing its complete self. Off on the highway, the ravens are cleaning up on yet another road kill deer.
