O M G!!! I took Brighten to the neighborhood PetSmart this morning and received the usual oohs and ahs that any puppy will get in a dog-friendly place. When we got into line, the sweet innocent thing with orange stripes in her hair working the register asks, What kind of dog is that??? I answer with the standard response, English Setter. She continues ringing up my items with a quizzical look on her face and then turns to me and asks, With some Dalmatian? (And here is where I needed to hold myself back)--No, ALL English Setter. (pause for emphasis) Its a BREED. What I REALLY wanted to say to her was, Hmmm, orange hair....part PUMPKIN? It gets better. We go over to the Make-a-Tag machine near the entrance and I begin processing Brightens new tag. The front door glides open and a middle-aged lady comes in accompanied by a huge rough-coated Collie. What a beautiful puppy!, she exclaims. Such gorgeous coloring! I duly thank her for her compliment--and then--it happens. Pomeranian? I kid you not.
