O OMoore FC 1-0 Portlaoise Shamrocks The Shamrocks lost the 1st round of the cup they won last year in Ballyroan this morning In very windy conditions the game started well for the away side Anthony Quigley and Ronan Molloy combined to give OLoughlin and early chance . A few minutes later Stephen Oloughlin linkied well with Brendan La Cumbre who shot just wide. La Cumbre went close again after this and the home keeper was kept busy making saves from OLoughlin and Fearghal Fennell who stung his palms with a rasping drive. Down the other end Christopher Lynch made a save but had little to do. Both teams lost a player through injurie ,the OMoore right back with a knee injury and on 28 mins centre half Barry Linden clashed heads and had to go to hospital to get stitched up. The veteran Ozzie Dunne made his first competitive appearance of the season coming in for injured Linden and the player coach didnt let the team down. The first half ended without incident and the second half started much the same. It was scrappy stuff Steo O Loughlin had a half chance and Lynch in the Shamrocks goal did well to stop a crisp shot. It looked for all the world to be petering out as a 0-0 but with two mins left the O Moores scored with a good shot from the edge of the box. There was little time left but the Shamrocks pushed on and striker Stephen O Loughlin had a chance but on this day his luck was out. It was a poor performance from The Shamrocks a lot of things didnt work out on the day. Chris Lynch did nothing wrong in goals player coach Ozzie Dunne rolled back the years battling for everything ,Brendan Lacumbre was very lively in the first half but the best today was Brian Farrell who never stopped trying to get the Shamrocks playing ball. Congratulations to OMoore F.C we wish them every success in the rest of the competition hopefully another local team can lift the trophy we got great joy in winning last year.
