I call it that because its appeal is based on the attractiveness of the theoretical version of Marxism, and its failed practical application in history is being ignored, which we have a tendency to do in practically all areas of life. That said, painting the worlds troubles in purely economic terms such as capitalism vs. Marxism fails to acknowledge that we are not purely material beings, and that the breakdown of voluntary community, mediating institutions outside of the state and the corporation, virtue and shared values have as much, if not more, to do with the failing of our economic systems as does money.
