OBAMA MUST LIFT ECONOMIC SANCTIONS ON ZIMBABWE TOO FOR THE SAME - TopicsExpress

OBAMA MUST LIFT ECONOMIC SANCTIONS ON ZIMBABWE TOO FOR THE SAME REASONS HE HAS LIFTED THOSE ON CUBA On 16th December, 2014. President Obama and Raul Castro of Cuba had a historical Telephone conversation which resulted on Wednesday, 17th December, 2014 to the freeing of the Cuban five Anti-terror agents in the US prisons and two American spies jailed in Havana, Cuba. The two presidents agreed to resume full diplomatic relations that were soured in 1961 when Fidel Castro proclaimed the socialist nature of the Cuban revolution, with Cuba becoming a One-party state under Communist Party governance after the Revolution that started in 1959. The revolution saw the overthrow of Fulgencio Batista who was alleged to be backed by the US. President Obama enunciated that Decades of US isolation of Cuba have failed to accomplish our (US) objective of empowering Cubans to build an open and Democratic country. He further states It does not serve Americas interest, or the Cuban people to try to push Cuba towards collapse. And he goes on saying that it would not benefit America in any way to render Cuba a failed state. So, does it mean that America finds it beneficial to render Zimbabwe a failed state? I accordance with what is happening in Zimbabwe, it does not make good reading at all. Zimbabweans are living in anguish just because of those Economic sanction that were imposed on them by the Western world. Obama says that they (US) know from hard-learned experience that it is better to encourage and support reform than to impose policies that will render a country a failed state. We should not allow US sanctions to add to the burden of Cuban citizens we seek to help. The above statement is a clear paradox of his foreign/international policy regarding sanctions. Does he mean that those sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe do not add to the burdens our Zimbabwean brothers and sisters have? In the same way he has vividly seen no benefit in keeping sanctions on Cuba is the same he should look at Zimbabwe. It is not Mugabe who is feeling the sanction impact, but a common Zimbabwean without a job. Sanctions make environments harsh for a human being to achieve personal goals. They are more than Ebola.
