OCEAN CITY BEACH PATROL - Its Summer of 2014 count down time. Were very fortunate to have such great Lifeguards (SRTs) in OC, MD. They look after and protect many thousands of people daily during the season, in all weather conditions. Ocean or surf rescue is significantly more challenging. The job has far more responsibilities, and entails much more than that of a pool lifeguard. Because of this difference our lifeguards are called Surf Rescue Technicians, SRTs. They go thru rigorous training, and those you see watching over you are the best of the best. They have the amazing ability to watch after everyone in the water - Reunite many lost children daily with their families - Rescue, safely, many in the water - Provide First Aid when needed. In other words, all of them take their job looking after the beachgoers very seriously. Lifeguards are appreciative of a cold drink on those hot summer days! Enjoy, respect the ocean, swim responsibly, and have fun! SCHEDULE - The 10 miles of beach are guarded and protected by our Surf Rescue Technicians (SRTs) from 10:00 AM - 5:30 PM, starting the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, and continuing 7 days a week thru the Sunday of Sunfest weekend (usually the 3rd Sunday after Labor Day). After Labor Day, the Beach Patrol implements Fall coverage, extending until the Sunday of Sunfest weekend. Fall coverage is a change in standard operating procedures, as well as placement of guard stands along the beach. SRTs will be on duty between the hours of 10:00 AM and 5:30 PM after Sunfest weekend. They no longer man guard stands on the beach, but provide roaming patrols on four-wheel-drive vehicles, and continue to monitor the beach through the end of October. The purpose of these patrols is to be available should beachgoers not heed their strong warnings to; Never swim when Surf Rescue Technicians are not manning the lifeguard stands. ~
