OCN NI Level 3 Award in Community Development This five day course will help participants develop an understanding of the values and principles underpinning community development and the benefits and challenges of community development practice in addressing issues of inequality, poverty and disadvantage. Delivered by Rural Community Network (RCN), it will seek to develop confidence among community development workers by encouraging the sharing of knowledge, experience and practice. In addition to participation in the training, additional workbook exercises must be completed in order to obtain a Level 3 OCN NI accreditation (optional). Who is it for? This is ideal for those involved in community development practice or who use a community development approach within their area of work. The course is aimed at those already employed as community development workers or those employed in related areas of work (such as health, housing or local government) who use a community development approach in their work. It will seek to: 1. Explain and discuss the delivery of effective quality practice which is underpinned by community development values. 2. Explore the benefits and challenges of community development practice in NI, its contribution to peace building and addressing issues of inequality, poverty and disadvantage. 3. Share skills, knowledge and experience between community development workers and to develop future networking and learning opportunities. Previous Participants Participants from the previous Level 3 Award Community Development course, delivered by RCN said: “I found it so useful. It will certainly help improve my practice. I intend to bring what I have learned to my wider organisation.” “It was a fantastic style of delivery – very friendly and interactive, safe open place to share and totally relevant to my work.” “Having had experience of community development work this course gave me the theory and a better understanding about why we do what we do.” Dates & Costs The training will be held in RCN Offices, 38a Oldtown Street, Cookstown, from 10am-4pm on the following Wednesdays: 20th and 27th November 2013, 4th, 11th and 18th December 2013.
