OCT 6-This Day in Beatles History: 1964-At the Abbey Road studios in London, the Beatles recorded 13 takes of the partially written song, Eight Days a Week. It was the first time John Lennon and Paul McCartney had gone into the studio with an incomplete song, and then finished it during the recording process. Eight Days a Week, which was not released as a single in England, hit No.1 in America for 2 weeks in March of 1965. Although the song was a huge American hit, the Beatles themselves were never really impressed with it. In fact, John Lennon called it lousy and the Beatles never performed it live...1969-Fab Four fans were surprised to discover that the latest Beatles hit wasnt written by Lennon and McCartney. Instead, George Harrisons Something was the A-side of the new Beatles single release. By reaching No.3 on the pop chart, Something was the only George Harrison song to make the top ten while he was a member of the Beatles. Despite the fact that George was given the A side of this record, the irony is that he was still over-shadowed by John and Paul. In a real rarity in the music business, the B side, Come Together, actually shot all the way to No.1, giving the Beatles another in a long line of double-side hits. By the way, Harrisons Something has since become the 2nd most covered Beatle song by other artists, second only to Paul McCartneys Yesterday....1973 Ringo Starrs new song, Photograph, debuted on the singles chart. It was Ringos 4th hit and it became his first American solo No.1...
