OCTEA Presents Fake Documents To MPs By S.U. Thoronka Senior officials of OCTEA Mining Company formerly Koidu Holdings in Kono, yesterday appeared before the Labour and Employment Committee in Parliament to register their apology for presenting what the committee regarded as fake documents. The President of the Company, Ibrahim Sorie Kamara who presented the letters of apology for himself and on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company promised that such anomaly would not happen again, adding that the act was not deliberate. It would be recalled that before now the Parliamentary committee on Labour and Employment demanded for a list of expatriate personnel stating their salary scale, payment to NASSIT and other documents which the committee deemed relevant to their investigation, but that according to the committee the wrong documents were presented. APC Honourable Augustine B. Torto of Kono district, in his contribution cautioned OCTEA senior officials and emphasized that presenting documents to the committee that are misleading is tantamount to a criminal act that is punishable by law. The Chairman of the Committee, SLPP Honourable Francis Amara Konuwa of Kenema District said the establishment of the committee is not to intimidate corporate entities or individuals but to work in partnership for the benefit of all and sundry. He informed that a total of USD 100,000 has been set aside to train Sierra Leoneans locally as well as internationally. The chairman also mentioned about local content work plan which he said the people of Lower Bambara Chiefdom especially Tongo Field would like to know about. Honourable Konuwa furthered that the documents presented to the committee were fake adding that he will not hesitate to invoke the relevant section of the standing order should the anomaly be repeated any time. As a result, the chairman adjourned sittings for two weeks to enable OCTEA regularize their documents.
