ODD ... PARANORMAL ... STRANGE ... WEIRD WASHINGTON COUNTY MORE OUT OF OUR VAULTS FROM SPOOKY BANANA HEADS! This time ... we hear from REBECCA SCHROEDER (Facebook page: https://facebook/rebecca.schroeder.3958?fref=ts ) who has written an article to share concerning Things Which Go Bump In The Night --- in Washington County! ... So, in her own words (with a bit of editing on my part) ... we present this eerie tale from Banana Head Rebecca ... Hang onto your arm chair and make sure the lights are turned up bright ... Ooooo-Eeeiiii-Ooooo!!! ... MY STRANGE STORY by Rebecca Schroeder If you are a skeptical person, this may not be the story for you. But if you believe there is a form of AFTERLIFE that has work to do prior to crossing over --- grab a cup of tea and read on. :) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was my parents who purchased the original Live Oak Female Seminary (which was in the Gay Hill area). If you grew up in Brenham, you may have driven out to the house on Halloween in search of SPIRITS. The house is a two story structure that was built in 1850 by Rev. James Weston Miller and later owned by the Civil War surgeon Robert Finney Miller. Upon relocating the house, my folk lovingly restored the entire log structure and had no idea of what was to come! :( The first indication of things to come started with one of the carpenters telling my mother that they kept hearing footsteps when they were working in the house. They heard steps on the stairway as well as the upstairs guest room. But --- no one was ther! My parents laughed. BUT --- only a little, because they had heard the same thing. :( One carpenter had forgotten a saw upstairs and came back for it that evening at dusk. He left the saw in the guest room and said he could not make himself go into that room to retrieve it. There was just SOMETHING that kept him from crossing the threshold. (Yikes!) ... There were many incidents of ... footsteps ... and ... scraping noises. One noise even drove my youngest brother to jump out of the second story window! He was so frightened, he could hardly talk about it. The restoration went wonderfully and my parents and brother moved into the beautiful home. I took pictures of all of the rooms for their album and had a very odd happening. ALL of the guest room pictures showed a bright light in the corner. However --- there was NO electrical light there! At that time, I owned a little Scottish Terrier named Pepper. She frequently rode with me to visit. She would approach the guest room and stop at the threshold, growling and raising the hair on her back. She would not enter the room. Even when carried into the room, she would quickly scurry out. I was never able to get the dog to enter the room unless carried. :( My parents had their home on the Historical Home Tour one year with over two hundred people visiting the many rooms. Six of those visitors called my mother to the side to tell her that the guest room was inhabited by a strong male spirit. (More Oooooo-Eeeeiiiiii-Ooooooo ...) My most memorable experience happened when I had a sick child. There came a terrible ice storm. The electricity went out at our home which was an all electric house! We quickly grew COLD ... My husband was hunting, so I loaded up my son and carefully drove out to my parents home. Mother had started a fire in the upstairs master suite fireplace, so my son and I snuggled into the bed. [THE SPIRIT SOON WALKS!] Around 1:00 AM, I got up and medicated my son with Tylenol and cough syrup, then tried to return to sleep. Try as I may, sleep would not come. Then, I grabbed a magazine and started reading. Soon --- I heard a creaking noise and thought that the ice must be building up on the roof. Suddenly, as if appearing through the wall, an old wooden bicycle rolled across the ceiling. Slowly it traveled all the way across the room and out the chimney. Was I frightened? Not really, But --- I was rather amazed! A short while later I heard a whooshing sound. I turned toward the desk only to see the telephone expand and contract. It grew to the size of a large recliner and then shrank to the size of a coin. Now, this scared me! I held my sleeping child close and watched the telephone for what seemed like hours but turned out to be about ten minutes. I tried to wake my son but after a sizable medication dose, he was sleeping soundly. He was too big to carry down the stairs and there was no way that I was leaving him alone so I held him tight and waited for sunrise. When the sun came up and my child was awake, we hurried downstairs to share the story with my mother. She too had heard the creaking of the bicycle but had thought it to be the wind. You may say that I was dreaming or perhaps even drinking, but I swear to you that it was real, very real! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- And, so ... dear Banana Heads ... we leave this story for you to reflect upon and come to your own conclusions. For me ... I believe Rebecca, for much has occurred in my own life that can not be explained. There is far more out there in Banana Land than meets the eye. We give everyone who makes such claims the generous benefit of belief ... For WHO are we to say that it did not happen? ... Oh, and --- be sure to look over your shoulder as you walk into dark rooms, open closet doors, or get the strange feeling that something is UNDER your bed! ... He! He! :)
