ODINISMS SMALL FACTS OF THE DAY: on the meaning of the sacrificial feast on Einherjar, The meaning of the sacrificial feast, is fairly plain. When blood was sprinkled over altars & the toasts were drunk, kinsmen & kinswomen were symbolically joined with the Gods of war, and fertility, and with their dead ancestors, sharing their mystical powers. This is a form of communion. Gifts are brought to the Gods in hope that they will give a reward. Strength, wisdom, courage. However a gift always looks for its return, & consequently, it is not wise to pester the Gods with too much sacrifice. Regarding the traditional Einherjar sacrificial boar.... The meat of the boar was consumed at the sacrificial banquet, those who partook of it felt that they were absorbing the powers of the Gods. When animals were sacrificed, only the hide & head were given to the Gods. The rest being eaten at the sacrificial feast. Hails!!
