OEES LESSONS Transition connective words How about some vocabulary of transition - for moving from one paragraph to the next, for transitioning between ideas, showing contrast, or whatever. Furthermore, he did a degree in Business Administration. 3) otherwise - to show a negative consequence Ex: Youd better study hard for the final test; otherwise youll probably fail the course. 4) indeed - to show emphasis Ex: She is an excellent student. Indeed, she is probably tops in her class. 5) therefore - to show result Ex: There was a big snowstorm last night. Therefore, all the schools are closed today. 6) nonetheless - to show contrast Ex: Carolyn doesnt have much experience. She is nonetheless an excellent worker. 7) furthermore - to add information Ex: I have two exams next week. Furthermore, I have an essay due this Friday. 8) whereas - to show contrast Ex:Whereas Steve is a hard worker, his friend Don is quite lazy. 9) though - to show contrast Ex: Though the weather was very hot, she felt a bit cold because she was sick. 10) in fact - to clarify or to further explain Ex: Victoria is a beautiful city. In fact, many people consider it to be the nicest city in Canada. Transitions are useful in helping make your ideas flow from one to the next.
