OFFENDED PEOPLE ARE UNHAPPY PEOPLE: “Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times” Matthew 18:22. Feelings of offense weaken from within. You cannot feel offended and be happy. So, while that unhappiness lasts certain measure of energy would have been sapped. Why? It takes significant measure of energy to be sad, sustain that sadness and to keep an offender in mind. The worst of it all is that a prolonged sadness degenerate into bitterness, which eats up its host from within. The moment your spirit is embittered against someone, you are automatically disconnected from God the source of life. Someone said, if you can release someone from your mind – meaning if you can forgive an offender sincerely from your heart, by implication; you have just set a prisoner free and that prisoner is you. When asked how many times offenders must be forgiven before one begins to keep record of such offence or to keep malice, Jesus said: ‘seventy times seven times – meaning 490 times. This is impossible in a day! Thus, Jesus was indirectly saying for as long as you are alive you should keep forgiving people. As a matter of fact, you cannot be keeping malice and be creative. Feelings of offence breaks your link with God (the supernatural); you cannot abhor bitterness and live long. The behaviour of others is not a reason for you to be destabilized. That which offends you only weakens you. Behind your feelings of offence is ego, convincing you that the world should not be the way it is. Here comes the question: do you want to stay connected to God? Do you want to live long? One of the steps to take to achieve that is to release whoever you are holding in your mind. Spend the rest of your life to initiate and pursue peace. Trust God to take you to a level whereby nothing disturbs you anymore. Pray for grace to overlook whatever is done against you. People will always offend you, but just smile and walk or look away. Rain of blessings will fall on you.
