OFFICE of the SHERIFF for QUEEN ANNE’S COUNTY PRESS RELEASES If you have information on any of the cases below you are asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (410) 758-0770 or email at [email protected] INCIDENT: Theft from Vehicle DATE / TIME: 01/16/2014 @ 1605 Hours (Reported) LOCATION: 100 Helfenbein Lane, Chester, MD VICTIM: Binh Nguyen of Woodbridge VA NARRATIVE: Victim reported on the 14th to 15th of January someone had broken into his 2012 Lexus while parked near his business, Topaz Nails. Several of the door locks were damaged and stolen two DVD players that were mounted in the head rests. Damage was placed at $3100. DEPUTY: Dfc. Jessica Kellogg CASE: 14-01574 *************************************** INCIDENT: Assault DATE / TIME: 01/16/2014 @ 2119 Hours LOCATION: 100 Castle Marina Road, Chester, MD VICTIM: Female (16) of Queenstown Male (17) of Stevensville NARRATIVE: It was reported there was a fight involving high school age youths. The fight reportedly started inside McDonalds and was then in the parking lot. The report states there was a group in the lot and the actual fight involved a couple of males picking on another male. A 16 year old girl attempted to intervene and was punched in the head. Possibly a second female was also punched but that’s unconfirmed. EMS responded but did not transport the female – a parent responded and removed her from the scene. The report also states a witness reported “kids jumping on cars” but no mention of any damages. DEPUTY: Deputy Mitch Jones CASE: 14-01608 *************************************** INCIDENT: Burglary 1st Degree DATE / TIME: 01/17/2014 @ 0646 Hours LOCATION: Bryans Channel Way, Queenstown VICTIM: Wade E. Lanhardt of Maysville, WV ARREST: Pending NARRATIVE: Deputies were dispatched to the residence for a Burglary report. The victim advised he had been hunting and removed his gear and shotgun from his black 2013 Cadillac Escalade. After leaving the gear inside and the shotgun propped near a sliding glass door, he went to bed. The next morning when he looked outside he realized the Escalade and the shotgun were missing. A BOLO was issued for the missing SUV and within 40 minutes MSP in Berlin attempted to stop the vehicle for speeding. The Escalade went into a ditch and three suspects attempted to flee. All three suspects were quickly captured. The Escalade was valued at $60,000 and the Beretta A400 12 Gauge shotgun which was not recovered has a value of $1300. FROM “THE DISPATCH” BREAKING NEWS: Juveniles Lead Police On Morning High Speed Chase In Stolen Vehicle Shawn J. Soper, News Editor BERLIN -- Three juveniles were arrested on multiple criminal and traffic charges early Friday morning after a high speed chase through northern Worcester County in a Cadillac Escalade allegedly stolen from a residence in Queen Anne’s County. Around 7:50 a.m. on Friday, a Maryland State Police trooper working a traffic assignment in the area of Route 50 and Hall Rd. observed a 2013 Cadillac Escalade traveling above the posted speed limit. The trooper attempted to stop the vehicle, but it turned onto Hall Rd. in an attempt to flee. The driver turned onto several back roads eventually turning onto Route 610, or Whaleyville Rd., at speeds over 100 mph. The driver then attempted to turn onto Murray Rd., but lost control, left the roadway and crashed into a roadside ditch. The driver and two other male juveniles exited the vehicle and fled on foot, but were quickly apprehended by Worcester County Sheriff’s Deputies who were assisting the MSP trooper in the pursuit. The investigation revealed the Cadillac Escalade was reported stolen from a residence in Queen Anne’s County. The residence was also burglarized and a hunting-style rifle was stolen at the same time as the vehicle was stolen. Although the rifle was not found, prescription medications and trace amounts of marijuana were located in the vehicle. Also located in the vehicle was a long-bladed, Bowie-style knife. The three juveniles were arrested and charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of controlled dangerous substances and multiple serious traffic offenses. They were turned over to the Department of Juvenile Services. Investigation remains open and charges are pending in Queen Anne’s County for the three juveniles. DEPUTY: Deputy Brad Martz ASSIST: Dfc. Jason Rickard – MSP Berlin CASE: 14-01626 ************************************ INCIDENT: Theft DATE / TIME: 01/17/2014 @ 0919 Hours LOCATION: 300 Block of South Carolina Road, Stevensville VICTIM: Chesapeake Waste Industries NARRATIVE: Resident reported her trash can property of Chesapeake Waste Industries was missing from the end of her driveway. The trash can was valued at $150. DEPUTY: Deputy Kevin Parks CASE: 14-01635 ********************************** INCIDENT: Robbery / Assault DATE / TIME: 01/17/2014 @ 2005 Hours LOCATION: 300 Thompson Creek Mall, Stevensville VICTIM: Tina M. Thomas of Stevensville ARREST: Daniel Joseph Boss Jr. of Stevensville CHARGE: Robbery, Assault and Theft NARRATIVE: Victim stated she was loading her groceries into her car when she was approached from the rear, grabbed and struck in the face by a male in a dark hooded sweatshirt and dark pants. After the assault, her purse was ripped from her side causing the contents to fall on the pavement. The suspect then took $85 cash and fled to a silver passenger car driven by a second unknown person. The victim had a swollen left eye. The victim was able to identify her attacker as Daniel Joseph Boss Jr. from prior social contact. An application of charges for Boss was submitted to the District Court Commissioner. Boss was located at his residence at 0400 hours on the 18th and taken into custody. He was initially held on a $20,000 bond. At a bail review his bail was increased to $75,000. He is being held at the QA Detention Center. DEPUTY: Deputy Kevin Fleck ASSIST: Deputy Chris Neall CASE: 14-01694 *********************************** INCIDENT: Assault DATE / TIME: 01/18/2014 @ 0140 Hours LOCATION: 4100 Block of Main Street, Grasonville NARRATIVE: Deputies were called to the residence after two males had an altercation. Both subjects had been drinking and when one called it a night and went to bed, the other became angry and started a fight. Neither subject had any apparent injuries and both declined to pursue any criminal charges. DEPUTY: Dfc. Charles Harris CASE: 14-01709 ********************************** INCIDENT: MDOP DATE / TIME: 01/18/2014 @ 1126 Hours LOCATION: 200 Block of Flyway Lane, Chestertown (QA) VICTIM: Charles Moore of Chestertown NARRATIVE: Victim reported finding all four tires slashed on a his 2013 Nissan Juke parked in his driveway. Damages were estimated at $800. Victim advised the incident may be a result of an prior relationship. DEPUTY: Deputy Kevin Parks CASE: 14-01726 ********************************** INCIDENT: Fraud / Theft DATE / TIME: 01/18/2014 @ 2103 Hours LOCATION: 201 Romancoke Road, Stevensville VICTIM: Shore Stop Store NARRATIVE: It was reported that an employee at the store received a phone call from a person advising they were tech support from Western Union and that her assistance was needed to avoid the system to crash. The employee was instructed to press certain buttons to complete the transaction and afterward realized that $939 had been transferred to a “rush card”. Attempts to contact the caller went straight to a voice mail. Western Union was then contacted and advised of the fraud and to contact local police. DEPUTY: Dfc.
