OFFICE of the SHERIFF for QUEEN ANNE’S COUNTY PRESS RELEASES If you have information on any of the cases below you are asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (410) 758-0770 or email at [email protected] INCIDENT: Theft DATE / TIME: 01/19/2014 LOCATION: 304 Evans Avenue, Grasonville VICTIM: Winchester Liquors NARRATIVE: Majit Kaur of Winchester liquors reported that an employee at the store had printed numerous Keno, Pick 3, Pick 4, Mega Million, and Multi-Match tickets without making payment. There was also currency missing from the store. Review of security video shows the employee consuming wine and wine coolers while on duty. Just before deputies arrived, the employee posted a sign on the door stating “Family Emergency – Be Back in an Hour”. He hasn’t been seen since. In total the loss was estimated at $4700. Investigation remains open. DEPUTY: Dfc. Jason Rickard CASE: 14-01837 ************************************* INCIDENT: Possession of CDS DATE / TIME: 0/19/2014 @ 2223 Hours LOCATION: RT 50 @ Piney Narrows Chester ARREST: Gheorghe Mecel Nister (42) of Washington DC ARREST: Dawit Mitiku Bedada (35) of Washington DC CHARGE: Possession of CDS NARRATIVE: Deputies saw a black Dodge Ram truck with Missouri registration being operated without a head light and stopped the vehicle. A check of the driver’s information indicated that he had an open warrant in Idaho but the state would not extradite. During the stop a baggie of suspected marijuana was observed. A further search resulted in the seizure of suspected methamphetamine and the driver and his passenger were placed under arrest for possession. DEPUTY: Deputy Kevin Fleck ASSIST: Deputy C. Harris CASE: 14-01858 *********************************** INCIDENT: Burglary DATE / TIME: 01/20/2014 @ 0030 Hours LOCATION: 320 Squires Lane, Millington, MD VICTIM: Andrew E. Sweetak of Millington NARRATIVE: Victim reported he was asleep on his couch when a white male teenager entered the house through an unlocked door. When the male was confronted he fled the house. The victim went outside and saw a second subject in the yard. Both subjects were reported to be dressed in dark clothing. A search of the area was done by QA Sheriff’s Deputies, MSP and Kent County Sheriff’s Deputies but the subjects were not located. No damage of loss was reported. DEPUTY: Deputy Jeremy Gardner ASSIST: QA & Kent Deputies, MSP CASE: 14-01862 *********************************** INCIDENT: Thefts / MDOP DATE / TIME: 01/20/2014 @ 1600 Hours LOCATION: Mowbray Park & Terrapin Park, Stevensville VICTIMS: Nicole Jones of Greensboro, MD Kelly Alexander of Stevensville Annette Para of Millsboro, DE NARRATIVE: Victim Jones at Mowbray Park reported the window of her van had been broken and her purse missing. While taking that complaint, it was reported that two other vehicles at Terrapin Park had their windows smashed. Both victims at Terrapin Park reported their windows smashed and their purses missing. The thefts which included the purses, cell phones and assorted cash and credit cards were estimated at $3,800 and damages over $300. DEPUTY: Deputy Scott Hogan CASE: ********************************** INCIDENT: Burglary DATE / TIME: 01/21/2014 @ 1000 Hours LOCATION: 300 Block of Elm Street, Stevensville VICTIM: Deborah & Kevin Shaw NARRATIVE: Victims advised they had left their residence at about 1730 hours the evening before. Upon returning the following morning they discovered a HP Laptop and various prescription medications missing. Entry was made thru an unsecured door. The loss was placed at $530. DEPUTY: Deputy Scott Hogan CASE: 14-02057 ************************************ INCIDENT: MDOP DATE / TIME: 01/22/2014 LOCATION: Greenwood Community, Grasonville NARRATIVE: It was reported that unknown person(s) had driven onto the community’s soccer field and had done “donuts” severely damaging the playing surface. Rickard CASE: 14-02124 ************************************** INCIDENT: MDOP DATE / TIME: 01/22/2014 @ 1506 Hours LOCATION: 1300 Block of Rabbit Hill Road, Church Hill VICTIM: Catherine E. Kempel of Church Hill NARRATIVE: Victim reported unknown person had placed a large firecracker in her mailbox damaging the mailbox and contents. Victim stated she heard what she thought to be a gunshot at about 8PM. DEPUTY: Cpl. Shane Russell CASE: 14-02151 ************************************** INCIDENT: DWI / Motor Vehicle Collision DATE / TIME: 01/22/2014 @ 1712 Hours LOCATION: 400 Block of Bay City Road, Stevensville ARREST: Robert Allen Miller (49) of Stevensville CHARGE: DWI NARRATIVE: Deputies responded to location for a truck that had run over a mailbox and thru a fence. On arrival contact was made with the driver who was believed to be under the influence. After several field sobriety task were attempted he was placed under arrest. Rickard CASE: 14-02156 ********************************** INCIDENT: Theft DATE / TIME: 01/23/2014 @ 1938 Hours LOCATION: Outlet Center Drive, Queenstown VICTIM: Dana Buchman & Brooks Brothers NARRATIVE: Employees at the two stores reported an African American male in a long black leather coat had shoplifted various clothing articles and left the shopping center in a blue Chevrolet passenger car. Over $4000 of items including coats, dresses, and jeans were missing.
