OFS Wildfire Activity Update Oklahoma Forestry Services (OFS), a division of the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food & Forestry, reports due to precipitation in parts of Oklahoma large fire activity was minimized today. Wildfire incident information: Guthrie (Logan County) – Started May 4th. 3,250 acres – 95% contained. Fire is being actively patrolled for hotspots and occasional flare-ups. Woodward (Woodward County) – Started May 6th. 13,072 acres – 95% contained. Fire is in patrol status. Quinlan (Woodward County) – Started May 4th. 14,100 acres – 100% contained. Fire is in patrol status. Seiling Fire (Dewey County) – Started May 4th. 3,052 acres – 100% contained. It appears a rapid drying trend will resume in Oklahoma for the weekend. Elevated and critical fire danger will return with the development of a dry line moving in on Saturday. Red Flag Warning criteria may be met in the afternoon and evening hours for areas in western Oklahoma on Saturday. “Saturday and Sunday’s predicted fire weather may present extreme danger for the state of Oklahoma,” said George Geissler, Oklahoma State Forester. “We remind the public to remain vigilant. Embers that ignite will spread quickly and can pose control problems for firefighters. ” As deteriorating weather conditions occur, OFS Task Forces and firefighting personnel are prepared for initial attack and potential mobilization. A Governor’s burn ban remains in effect for 36 counties in western Oklahoma. Many of those have specific exemptions.
