OGHA TO KICK-START BUDGET PERFORMANCE MONITORING SOON Ogun State House of Assembly will soon commence the monitoring of annual budget performance of Ministries, Departments and Agencies in line with the 2013 Appropriation Act. Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Suraj Ishola Adekunbi who made this known during an interview in Abeokuta, said the step is part of the Assembly’s oversight function which would promote effective and efficient service delivery. Rt. Hon. Adekunbi stated that the exercise would help to ascertain and where necessary, reconcile projects implemented with funds allocated to such in the Act, saying this was a veritable means of ensuring that the people enjoy more democratic dividends across the State. According to him, the focus of the Seventh Legislature was to give quality representation to the people and continue to be partners in progress with the Executive arm in developing the State. He explained that the Ogun State Joint Funding of Special Projects Agency bill was part of the first set of bills passed by the House and it was meant to improve security network which had helped attract investors to the State. He added that the Assembly had received and passed some Executive bills to boost the State’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), curb multiple taxation and assist government in its financial engineering to advance development to all the nooks and crannies of the State. The Speaker noted that all the three arms of Government had been relating and making meaningful contributions to the development of the State because of interdependence existing among them, noting that the untiring efforts and leadership style of Governor Ibikunle Amosun, whom he described as a senior lawmaker was also a contributory factor.
