OGUN EMERGES SECOND BEST IN NATIONAL QUIZ COMPETITION Ogun State has emerged as the overall second best among the 36 States of the Federation and the FCT that participated in the 2013 NNPC annual national quiz competition. Addressing representatives of the State in the competition in his office in Abeokuta, Commissioner for Education, science and Technology, Barrister Segun Odubela charged them not to rest on their oars, advising that they should see their performance as a challenge to perform better in future competitions. “I will like to congratulate you for this brilliant performance, indeed, it is not a mean achievement, you have really done the State proud. However, be reminded that this is the beginning, this position should be a challenge to buckle up, you should be able to do better than this in future competitions, so don’t rest on your oars”, Odubela charged. He assured that on its part, government would continue to create an enabling environment that would enhance learning and teaching so that the State would continue to excel among its peers. “The present administration remained committed to educational development and will not relent towards ensuring that necessary machineries are continually put in place to create an environment that is conducive for teaching and learning”, the Commissioner assured. Also speaking, Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Science and Technology, Dr. Tunji Abimbola counseled the winners who are SS 3 students to sustain the spirit as they were preparing to write their Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), in order to come out in flying colours. Meanwhile, the 2013/2014 first term Unified Examination for public Secondary Schools in the State which commenced today would end on Tuesday, 10th of this month. According to a statement by Barrister Odubela, the schools would close for the first term holiday on Friday, 13th December 2013 and would resume for the second term on Monday, 6th January next year.
