OK - continuing with the theme of roadcraft, how about this problem affecting just about every school in then land… Lets begin with Rule 243 of the Highway Code: DO NOT stop or park near a school entrance… DO NOT stop or park opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space… DO NOT stop or park on a bend. The images below show the unsafe conditions prevailing close to Quorns primary school. I cannot understand why local authorities are so reluctant to impose borough-wide Traffic Regulation Orders in order to keep areas around school safe for pedestrians (esp. young children) as well as other road users or why the policing of such areas is so spectacularly ineffective. The bottom line is that a good many of these offenders are too lazy to walk even short distances. Even the more basic Rule 242 is beyond these individuals: You must not leave your vehicle or trailer in a dangerous position or where it causes any unnecessary obstruction of the road.
