OK. First; hi to all of my facebook friends. Second; what exactly is a tag? It apparently is not a caption for a picture. OOoops. Lol. Third; and the main reason for this post, it is about a little problem I am having. Please read, post any suggestions, and help if you want. As most of you know, I am in college to be a Nurse. I am on summer break and, as I posted before, I broke my leg almost as soon as break started. That means I will be out of work until just a few days before it is over. This would be a problem for most people, but being in college makes it worse. This is when I was supposed to be working all sorts of hours in order to save money for my heating oil this winter. I can try to make up some hours this fall and winter, but it is very difficult to work while school is in session due to all of the homework. Plus I am starting the actual Nursing Program itself this fall, and I have been told by many people that I will not be able to work at all and keep my grades up while in the actual program. I have come up with a solution however. I am going to try selling survival bracelets. These are made by me, by hand. They are not the cheap junk, imported from China, I have seen starting to pop up at discount stores. I began making them for my family because I thought they were neat, and very useful. I found I was quite good at it, and I found that making them was almost as relaxing as woodworking. I have been looking for a way to make up for all the lost income and when I started seeing these cheapo wannabees in stores, I figured it might work. Now, I obviously can’t make them as cheaply as the knock-offs since I use real paracord. It is the paracord that makes them so useful (and for survival) after all. I was able to come within pennies of the cheapest ones I have seen, at $4.00 for the most basic no frills ones, but I won’t make up my winter oil money with those. For those who have not heard of them; a survival bracelet is a neat little bracelet made of paracord. Yes they are worn by guys as well; in fact guys were the first ones to wear them. Survivalists started wearing them, then hikers joined in, then the preppers, military, campers, and greenies all joined in because everyone thought they were so neat. I said at the start, it is the paracord that makes them useful as survival gear. It is actually more that the bracelets are what makes carrying your paracord so neat. Nearly all nature buffs know that, next to things to start fires, paracord is about the best thing to take into the woods with you “just in case”. It can be used for tying so many things, you can use it to climb into a tree, it will hold you up (unless you weigh over 550 lbs), in a pinch it can substitute for fishing line (and lure), and it is good cordage for trapping and hunting. It is good stuff. It is versatile, durable, and strong. In essence, it has all of the qualities that anyone who spends much time in the outdoors looks for. As I said, my bracelets are well made, quality merchandise. How can you know? Do you spend in the outdoors? Or even in the kitchen? OK. How do you tell if a knife is a quality knife (or just about any tool)? You hold it. You take it in your hand. You feel it. You can feel the quality of these bracelets compared to the knock-offs (or you can buy the knock-offs). Even in the more basic bracelets I make, I pack nearly 10 feet of paracord into them. That is why I can’t sell them cheaper. Besides (I mean really) is five bucks really that much for a neat little bracelet THAT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE? I make them in many different designs and I am always learning new ones. I custom size them to the measurement you give me. I can make them in a multitude of colors, but please be advised that if you want colors I do not have, you will have to buy two or more so I can get more paracord (yes, I’m that broke right now). Please also note that if you are outside of the Madison, Anson, Skowhegan, area, there will have to be shipping charges because gas ain’t free either. I said that small basic bracelets will be $4.00, but they go up from there. The trilobite and plain Solomon bracelets are the basics, if you want one of them with no frills, and your wrist is smaller than 8 ½ inches, then it will be $4.00. The beefier and the more complex weaves take more cord, and time, so they will cost you more. The caged Solomon will start at $5.50 with no kits in it, and so do the stitched Solomon and river bar. Because of their uniqueness (and difficulty) the jagged ladder bar and the stitched monkey bar both start at $6.00. Any kits that I weave into the bracelets will increase the price as well. I can add a fire kit, a fishing kit, or a trapping kit. In some of the beefier bracelets I can add multiple kits. The fire kit includes tinder and waterproof matches (I can put a firesteel kit but it adds $5.00 to anything I do (that’s at cost). The fishing kit has at least 15 feet of BRAIDED fishing line, two sinkers, and fish hooks. The trapping kit includes a ready-made snare (you make the trigger and hook it up). These kits open up a whole new realm of versatility for the paracord making them even more able to save your or a loved one’s life. Speaking of loved ones these bracelets make great gifts. I mean what tells someone you care more than giving something that can save their life, in the most dire of situations? I am going to try to include pictures on here so you can see what I am talking about. Please remember that I am always learning new weaves and can get more colors, so if you don’t like what you see, maybe I can make something you would like. Also, bracelets are far from the only thing that paracord makes (as I said “versatile”). I can also make belts, key fobs, zipper pulls, rifle slings, guitar straps, and a neat little hammock type seat for example. Anyway message me or text me at 431-9859 with your orders if you would like any of these things, to help me make up for all of my lost hours, and THANK YOU!
