OK Folks here some information and link to get involved with CART. There is a CART (County Animal Response Team) for every county in PA. We are part of SART (state parent group). If you wish to find out more info or join please go to: pasart.us and go to Become a Volunteer and fill out the info. From the Chief Coordinator Our Westmoreland team is pretty strong, but we are always looking for new volunteers from all walks of life and experiences with all types of animals. We are also looking to build our team in Fayette, and need volunteers we can count on. We are First Responders for animals. We do temporary emergency sheltering for 911 type calls (floods, house fires, evacuations, accidents), and we also have some members trained in technical rescue (involving specialized equipment). We do NOT do adoptions and we are NOT humane officers, so there is a limit to what we can do. (Think Fire Dept or Red Cross but for animals.) So we need the shelters also. But we need all shelters to keep stay functional, sanitary and safe for humans and animals. This will only happen with consistent planning, policies and procedures that follow national guidelines. I will gladly come and meet with anyone and speak if there is a group meeting to discuss sheltering. Also, just to clarify- our CART loaned AFW 34 crates, clamp on bowls and clipboards just for the temp shelter. We also donated needed sheets and other cleaning supplies. Some of our members donated many hours to clean and prep temp shelter, as well as they are taking some shifts to help ease stress on shelter workers. But the shelter is being run by AFW, not CART. Email us at: [email protected] if you have any other questions. - Lori Mozina; Chief CART Coordinator- Westmoreland / Fayette
