OK I need to admit something and I hope I dont disappoint everyone that through I was perfect as a Computer Tech. :) The other day, I started to look at the newest version of Linux Mint (Version 16) just released. Well I downloaded the ISO file and installed in on my 16GB flash along with the other 6 or 7 other Linux versions. I booted from the flash to check it out. Discovering that I liked it and I started to install install it over my Version 15. This is my main working computer. I hit the wrong key and wiped out my original “Home Directory”! For my friends using Windows this is equal to deleting the “My Documents” folder. Now I no longer have the 116GB worth of files that were out there because the HD has been overwritten to make way for the new “Home Directory”. Just want everyone to know that this is why you should backup all your data that you would miss if it were gone. The HD was now inaccessible. I ended up reformatting and reloading the new version anyway. I really like the improvements and now I have a bit more space on my HD. So loaded the new Operation System and recovered my data from the backups and the world is good again. Oh yea, I have backups because I may not be perfect but I am NOT Stupid. I have the important stuff backed up in at least two different locations somewhere on the 10 different HDs on one of the 5 different CPUs. Lesson: you can be imperfect at times but dont be stupid. I have some 30 year old videos and many pictures that were scanned in before the turn of the century. Save your data and back up on at least two other devices that are not on the original drive. If you fail to follow this advice, you will learn that: “Stupid is what Stupids done”!
