OK, Ive got one for you. In 1962, I was in the 6th grade at J. Ellsworth Hall Elementary. With many of you, we 6th graders were consigned to the annex building, away from the main school. Half of us were in Miss Marys class (we were invited to her wedding); the other half were in Mrs. Godbees class. The Cuban Missle Crisis was making everyone think about the bomb being dropped. WW III. Nuclear war. And, at that time, SAC was headquartered at Warner Robins AFB; we all knew if Cuba launched, wed be in ground zero territory. So - when wed have the Civil Defense drills, where wed get under our desks, or lay on the floor together in the hallway, what were you thinking? Ive never forgotten what was in my head, the same exact scenario each time. I was planning my route, running full speed, down the road in front of the annex bldg., turning onto Knightsbridge Rd., until I hit the turn left onto Treadway Dr., where my mother would be in our house. That was my only thought>getting home as fast as I could to protect my Mama. What were your thoughts?
