OK. I’ll admit it….I miss some of it. Underline some. Even without all the modern glass cockpit Buck Rogers crap, it forever transformed how I saw the world. It shrank that world but added depth to it that a non-pilot can never know. The vistas of beauty, some pf which are depicted here, are far more beautiful in real experience, and even today, years after I stepped out of the flight deck, illuminate my life with a numinous light for which I am forever grateful, and which I wish, but know I cannot fully, share with my friends. Circling to land over the pyramids in the full moonlight at Cairo, watching a comet in the midnight sky, breaking out of the clouds a hundred feet right at the end of a rainy runway, watching a sunrise through towering cumulus while threading through their canyons, looking down a few feet over a thunderstorm lit by lightning, acknowledging the grateful looks of departing passengers after a rough flight…..
