OK, NO ONE IS GOING TO BELIEVE THIS: I picked up the latest issue - TopicsExpress

OK, NO ONE IS GOING TO BELIEVE THIS: I picked up the latest issue of HorrorHound today. Having trouble sleeping due to a hellish headache and menopause I picked up the magazine about a half hour ago and I was reading letters to the editor (since I read the horror rags cover to cover) and this one letter really got me going. The writer identifies as a 52 year old (my age) who was answering a question posed by the editors (MONTHS AND MONTHS ago, as I remembered seeing it) about what your favorite horror and sci-fi TV series were growing up. This writer said that horror-wise it was Kolchak the Night Stalker and how they recently found it on Netflix and and loved how funny it was to watch now after all these years (especially how Kolchak always whistled his own theme song in every episode at least once). When I found it again on Netflix (last winter?) I watched a couple episodes with Lauren (who was too little at the time to be familiar with it --I was SO EXCITED) and I remember especially laughing at the whistling theme song. I thought, I dont know who this person writing is but I LOVE THEM. Then they go on to say their favorite sci fi was Lost in Space. Star Trek was a bit too serious for this person. OMG, I thought. This person and I would have been best friends! (They even occasionally watched Ultra Man just like me). Dr Smith got on their nerves, too, but had to be appreciated because there would have been no show without him getting them all into trouble --then quoted from one of my favorite episodes Handsome, Pretty, Handsome, Pretty, DR. SMITH! They ended with saying how fun it would be to see some of these old reruns, too. By now Im a sentence or two from the end of the letter, still amazed that someone felt exactly the same way I do about the same exact shows. READY FOR THE KICKER. I read the name of the contributor and it says: Mary Jo Bramble. LOL! I remember WANTING to write in about this. And like I said, it was WAY before my diorama was published this summer. In fact, I was surprised they were even printing this because it had been so long ago when they asked for people to write in about it (and I never did see a reply to it). So long ago that I completely forgot that apparently I HAD written in about it. So letter to the editor or not, Ive now been published in Horrorhound Magazine TWICE. Maybe its time for me to do some research and see if its possible to write an article or two. Horrorhound has been around quite a few years but is an embryo compared to Fangoria and Famous Monsters (formerly Famous Monsters of Filmland) which were out in the 70s, but I love the content because it covers more than film and TV. It covers horror toys, comics, conventions, the newest in Halloween masks, costumes and decorations. They even have their own record label and review horror rock (who knew there was such a thing?), movie scores (both from their own label and elsewhere) and books. I love all the horror rags out there but since Im starting to make a mark in horror art (I finally understand what you meant, Pop, when youd tell me Just draw what you see.), horrorhound gives gives me a great insight into whats HOT now (besides zombies), whats about to come out thats going to be hot, and where to find the people who cherish one of a kind work as well as whats massed produced. Its even inspired me to experiment with creating a brand new steampunk/horror comic character (which Im creating in real life to help with character development and story line before I begin to draw it--thank you Timmah Ganske) as well as a short film about a paranoid loner who discovers that the newly invasive stinkbugs have cameras in their heads (thats a long time coming --so far Ive just got a lot of stock footage of stink bugs LOL! But since the local bird populations are starting to develop an appetite for them, thats probably a good place to start). Anyway, if you dig horror and havent checked this magazine out, DO IT.
