OK, Parents around BC! Time to listen up. When I started this group in the spring it was to bring attention to the shortfalls in our current education system, and the subsequent harm to all our children (Kindergarten through Grade 12). We got a bit side swiped by the summers labour dispute and I have been a bit side swiped by my two crazy kids! But the last few weeks, I have again been hearing stories about families whose children are not just struggling in school, but are absolutely suffering - for many different reasons. In this country, and in this province, that is NOT acceptable. With new school boards elected, and labour peace amongst us for now, its time to get back on track and get going again. However, I cant do it alone and I need your help. Here are two ways Im looking for parents to get involved: 1. I would like to set up a working group comprised of parents from all around the province. The idea would be for the group to come create a strong framework for Parents for BC. What do we want to achieve, how do we want to do that, what is important to us, etc... We would do this mostly via email and wouldnt require a big time commitment. 2. SD43 Parents (Anmore, Belcarra, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam & Port Moody): I am planning a community forum to discuss education in our district. This would involve local politicians, representatives from the Ministry of Education, teachers, administrators, EAs, parents and other stakeholders. Weve already got a framework for an event, but I need a team to help us make it a reality.
