OK. Who wants to hear a funny story? Our mate Nigel Hadgkiss of that (no so) Fair Work Building Commission (The Government attack poodle) has taken the ACT branch of the CFMEU to the Federal Court for WH&S violations. The branch and their organisers are accused of doing things like not jump through hoops for bosses and responding to the concerns of their members and are facing hefty fines for doing so. In 2014 alone the FWBC and Head contractors all over the country would copy and paste the line: CFMEUs cynical use of safety as an industrial tool into press releases blasted out to journalists who can no longer afford to take the time to understand the broader issue. Weve been working with members and organisers to collect evidence when addressing safety issues on site in order to rebuff these insane claims time and time again, whist never taking our eyes off the actual prize - our members welfare. When Lend Lease came out swinging on our safety audits? We tweeted & Facebooked the heck out of photographic evidence that showed sites you wouldnt want your kids working on. It defies belief that Nigel never look at the bosses Hadgkiss would suddenly reveal his agency to be not only Tony Abbotts diligent lapdog, but also the literal embodiment of their catch cry - The FWBC actually does use safety as an industrial tool.
