OK, after all the statuses Im seeing about Star Wars auditions I feel the need to say a few things. 1. They are for lead roles, not extras. It is being filmed in London so that is where theyll be casting their extras from. 2. They have a lot of people to get through so you will not be reading scenes, they dont have time. If you get a callback, then you might be doing a read. This is what is called a cattle call where you are literally rated on physical appearance, sound of your voice and general presence. If you dont fit the criteria then you wont be picked, simple as. Thats Hollywood baby! Which brings me to my next point... 3. They have very specific criteria, if you dont fit them dont go! You are wasting your, their and everyone elses time. Its harsh, but again, thats Hollywood! 4. These people are professionals and expect you to be too... they are looking for the lead actors to head a multibillion dollar franchise, so if youre just going for a laugh, plan on taking the piss, or are just going because youre a super-mega-huge fan... see: time wasting. 5. JJ Abrams is super secretive about his projects, so hell want people he can trust not to leak info. Another reason they wont want people who are just there coz theyre a fan. And judging by the amount of selfies of extras on GoT and Viking Ive seen... people cant keep a secret. If any of these points dont sound like you DONT GO! I know youre saying But Wade, why you gotta crush dreams, why you gotta say these things you meanie! I say this as an industry professional of many years who has been on both sides of a casting call. Its not easy, believe me. But some of the statuses Ive been seeing have been bugging me... I say this in the interest of avoiding disappointment. I, myself, am going for it... but I know what to expect, if I dont get it it will be because I wasnt what they were looking for and NO OTHER REASON! Ive seen folks take this stuff personally.
