OK all- BLACK FRIDAY is coming up (Im sure many of you have seen the ads already!) and I have some tips for you on how you can save. First of all: BEWARE!! Statistics say that credit card users spend an average of $85.00 more than those who used cash. As of Nov. 2010 13.6 million Americans still hadnt paid off debt from their previous year of Holiday shopping. What about you- are you still paying off gifts from LAST YEAR CHRISTMAS? Many people end up going into debt at this time of year, so if you are having financial problems, my suggestion to you is NOT to go further into debt, but figure out ways you can celebrate the holidays without adding to the problem. Get creative, think of fun free events you can go to, make your gifts instead of buying them, & focus on the REAL reason for the season! But for those who are debt free and just want some tips on how to save money this Black Friday, check it out: -Get the Thanksgiving paper- its full of discounts, coupons, & deals -Check the ads-find what you are looking for and check the small print (many are time specific deals) -check the ad sites online -research ahead of time- look at consumerReports.org -Compare prices- PriceGrabber, BigRate, Shopping, Shopzilla -Get on mailing lists to get coupons a few weeks earlier (I get a ton of coupons in the mail) -stores leak their own Black Friday deals on Social Media like Facebook or Twitter so keep checking them -Beat the crowds- internet shop- special web only deals come out, some on Thanksgiving Day around midnight- plus get FREE shipping -Look for the Early Bird Shopper Discounts (usually 4 or 5 AM-11AM) -Look for Door Busters -Make a route/map- plan to make the most of your time, list & prioritize -Go solo or with a group of friends (divide and conquer) -Dress comfortably, wear layers, bring snacks and water, leave kids at home if possible, get car ready, filled with gas and cleaned out -Print out all coupons and bring them with you -Bring ad for price matching -pick up pamphlets/ads at the door for more coupons! -Many websites have special holiday coupon pages -keep to your list -be friendly and polite!!!! -Watch those impulse buys -Know terms of promotion & return policies -Get receipts/gift receipts to make returning easier if have to -Dont forget to negotiate! May get a lower price or free extras -Dont forget the rebates! -Get triple money back: get an item on sale, use a coupon and then get a mail in rebate! -Walmart will price match circulars from competitors, so bring those with you -Save more with Price Guarantee- keep checking items you bought and if the seller or a competitor offers it at a lower price you are entitled to money back -For coupons check: Milo, FatWallet, GottaDeal, DealCatcher, CouponCabin, SlickDeals, CurrentCodes -Get a Black Friday app for your phone and download it to get all the specials (some: ShopSavvy, Shooger, Barcode Reader, iSlick, AmazonWindowshop, ShopShop, Catalog Spree, & DealNews has a free Black Friday app) Have fun shopping- but remember NOTHING is worth buying, no matter how good of a deal, if its going to put you into debt!!!
