Ok so i guess its my turn to talk about this whole Donald Sterling issue... (and this is just me personally) As an African American man i come from a culture that strived and fought for years for racial equality. from being hosed down with water, to being attacked by dogs, to the countless marches and sit-ins in the 1960s and just having to fight Jim and Jane Crow laws and having a guy like Bull Connor running the helm for the white community at that time it was hard because for us as a culture being mistreated and abused i mean that was kind of a way of life (at least from what i hear from my grandparents) so in my mind once we got our rights in the 40s, 50s and 60s to be considered equals, i believed that we were making major moves forward not saying that racism wouldnt still exist in america, but that it would calm down and i feel like it has in some aspects in todays modern america thought there are still some racist out there. But now if i flip the Record over and play the other side and bring it to basketball for us basketball fans that were born in the 90s, we all knew that the clippers were the JV team of LA (However my first time going to the staples Center it was for my 5th birthday and i went to see a clipper game they were playing the Grizzlies who were in Vancouver at the time) .but for those of us who know, the Clippers were never spoken of like the Lakers were in the late 90s early 2000s. I come from the generation where it was guys like Quentin Richardson, Darius Miles, Elton Brand, a young Lamar Odom, Corey Maggette, Andre Miller, and Chris Kaman. then you get to the place where they go to the playoffs in 06 and the had Sam Cassel and Catinio Mobley. But they were so horrible as a 5 year old kid i could have gotten some minutes with the team and maybe even started a few games. I could have bought seats in row section 4 row 13 seat 2 and could have made my way down to court side because there just werent that many people attending the games (but i still respect them die hearts that went to them games rooting for they clips haha). I say that to say this. In a league that is over 80% African American, and for Mr. Sterling to have said what he did i just dont know how your able to own a NBA team knowing that this league is what it is as far as race. Though Baron Davis has said that this is who Mr. Sterling is and that Sterling called him a bastard when he was playing for him idk the full story. However (and idk whether the tape is true or not) but if this is the way that hes felt i dont think you should have made a move to get a 61 guard from New Orleans to come to your team and help turn the Organization around and also shouldnt have gotten a coach form Boston that won a championship against my Lakers in 08 and that is also African American. But just for him to have said what he said, at a time where the clippers have gone from no way to OK and have the chance of winning a championship this season i feel like this wasnt cool and weve had such a great playoffs. However the Support of the other teams in the playoffs with the wearing of the black socks and the gear and just showing the clippers Aye we support you guys even though youre our competitors in these playoffs, has been stellar and it just shows that the NBA is more family based from team to team than anything. do i hate sterling as a man i cant say that i do i dont know him and i cant do what Snoop did with a Video and say M.F this and F you and your family. but am i mad at him for his comments yes i am. and listen people are going to be who they are we cant change that. but i dont think if you knew going in that youd own a team thats majority African American i dont think you should be an Owner of any team if those statements are your hearts conviction. and i hope that this doesnt derail the playoffs from here on out cause we have great games going on and great storylines and im looking forward to these next and upcoming rounds.
