OK here is the end result of standing up for myself and fellow musicians who just want to get paid a fair wage for providing a service. The really sad part about this is that this guy is a local musician and this place is in a town that prides itself on supporting musicians. Feel free to share this with other bands and friends so maybe they will not support them as they do not support local musicians. • Booking“agent”guy Hey guys, My name is Sean and I run a Thursday night Showcase called Sound Waves at Asbury Park Yacht Club on the AP boardwalk. Id love to get you guys in here. Its not a paid gig but its a good way to start gigging in the Langosta Lounge chain and the night has just been a fun time. Almost a year going strong so far. We are booking April now, so we can get you a date then, but we actually had a band back out for Thursday 3/13. I know its soon but if youd like to get on that date or another please let us know. Thanks a lot, Sean Me: Wow I didnt know that place was a chain. Where are the others located? Is there a cover charge at this showcase and who would we be show casing in front of? • Also is there a back line? Thanks • backline lol Them: • Hey guys in addition to Langosta there is Labrador lounge in Lafayette. They also own APYC for unmet gigs on the boardwalk etc. good venue to get connected with. There is no cover and no back line but a PA and mics. We ask that bands bring a small crowd to show in front the other bands we book. Its been a good communal year of good music and fun. APYC is a cool bar too! Them: Summer gigs I meant, not unmet lol I dk even know what that means Me: I will talk to the guys Me: • Ok so I am going to reach out to the guys and see what they think but I just want to make sure that I am clear on how to present this to them. So We can play a Showcase in front of people we bring to Langosta lounge. For no money we get to carry all of our stuff there, set it all up, perform then break it all down while the people we brought spend their money at the bar or buying food with the hopes that we might possibly get another showcase at one the other clubs. thanks, I will let you know what they say. Them: • I understand its not a financially ideal scenario. If you dont want to do it, I understand. We are just trying to keep music going thru the winter nights. Its not easy to keep the same spirit thats here in the summer months. Thats all we are trying to do. I play in a local band, and my cohost Josh is the poet laureate of AP. So we know what its like. We arent trying to screw anyone over on a stiff deal. But let me know if you guys want to come out and play- wed love to have you. Them: •Your last message was unnecessarily hostile. We wont be asking you guys to perform for us again, and Ive let management know that they shouldnt look to have you in the venue for other gigs. Have fun in the future, and I implore you to work on your etiquette with venues.
