OK, here it is. Please post on Facebook: Greetings theatre students and aspiring theatre students! It is the first day of the last month of summer vacation, so I thought it was a fitting time to announce next years Connolly Theatre season. Firstly, it will be a year of Black-Box. After last year, I really miss the intimate black-box experience, so its back in a big way! Both shows will take place in the black-box setting. And they are . . . 12 ANGRY JURORS by Reginald Rose (Fall drama) Produced originally as 12 ANGRY MEN (with two film versions of the same name) and later as 12 ANGRY WOMEN (the all female version), this blistering drama is now available for production with a mixed gender cast as 12 ANGRY JURORS. It is a heart-pounding character study of 12 jurors locked in the jury room after a capital murder trial. At first it seems like an open-and-shut case, with 11 votes for guilty, but one juror holds out for a deeper look at the facts. The drama that ensues reveals who each of these 12 people are beneath the surface and what motives, virtues and prejudices have determined their positions. The movie version to watch is a 1997 version directed by William Friedkin. It is closest to our script and has an all-star cast, though the 1957 version by Sidney Lumet is an undeniable classic. Keep in mind when you watch that this new mixed-gender version allows for any role to be played by any gender. So, you may audition for literally any part youd like. There are 12 leading roles and 2 smaller roles, so new-comers are more than welcome at auditions! Script to follow in late August . . . SONG & DANCE by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Don Black (Spring Musical) Originally a one-woman show starring Bernadette Peters and written by the composer of PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, we are re-imagining this musical in true Connolly Theatre form and transforming it into a full cast production. The show focuses on Emma, a British newcomer to New York City who tries to succeed in business, friendship and love, with decidedly mixed results - some hysterical and some heartbreaking. There is one female lead, several large supporting roles (both male and female), and an ensemble of New York Girls that sing solos, dance, act and almost never leave the stage. CDs will be available on the first day of school, but you can YouTube several tracks from the original recording if you want a preview. Keep in mind that what sounds like one person singing everything will be expanded and divided throughout a full cast. It will be our first black-box musical!! See you soon! Enjoy your summer.
