OK, in the hopes of engaging in more conversation - we are going to do acount down from the worst to the best, doing 9/10 each day until I hit #1. Overall this is our opinion ...only, and we are sure there will be disagreements and disputes, but thats the case with all lists, we will also say a bit about each movie, some more than others. So, prepare our Top 80 Super Hero comic book movie list, which should start ...now! ENJOY! #80 (The Worst of the Worst) Batman & Robin. I know there are a lot of apologists for this movie. People who say, Oh, well, BATMAN & ROBIN was an homage to the campy approach taken on the 1960s Batman TV series. or Its so bad, its good. To that, I say this..... I get the reason for the campy approach for the 60s Batman (and I must admit, Ive always kind of loved that series), as the 60s was an era of deconstructing American icons and poking fun at them. I get that.....but that approach was NOT needed in 1997, especially after Tim Burtons Batman moves(and comic works like THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS and THE KILLING JOKE) hinted at how great Batman stories could be, if handled correctly. BATMAN & ROBIN was a MASSIVE step back for not only Batman as a major film franchise, but it created a hole that DC Comics, as a film studio, has never truly recovered from.....at least not yet. In fact, about the only good thing I will say about B&R is that it killed DCs stranglehold on successful film adaptations, and opened the door for Marvel to finally get its shot. (Nothing against DC, but Ive always been more of a Marvel guy, and knew their characters could be hugely successful in the film world, if handled by the right people....I was thankfully proven right on this theory) As for the So Bad, its good thing.....dont get me wrong. I LOVE terrible movies. Movies like MANOS: THE HANDS OF FATE and the Ed Wood films are my bread and butter, but the difference between movies like that and say SPEED RACER or BATMAN & ROBIN, is that they were made by poor schmucks who just wanted to make movies, and put a lot of their own money up to make those cheesy classics. They werent movies that cost millions and millions of dollars, promoted globally, ect, ect....and turned out, for whatever reason, to be giant, steaming pieces of shit. I mean, the makers of BATMAN & ROBIN spent more on craft services that I will EVER probably have for a budget on one of my movies, so, to paraphrase that great poet, Scott Steiner, I have no simpy for BATMAN & ROBIN. F$&K that movie with a razor blade tipped chainsaw. https://youtube/watch?v=aKNSstnq4sg
