OK, many of you know about this television experiment of mine. Here is my latest update. It is 23:54 here in Shanghai and on my television, as I toil to fix my websites, there is Seth Macfarlane hosting The Breakthrough Prize, a awards event honoring people in maths and science. This program encompasses this bizarre mixture of Hollywood and the whos who of maths and science. Christina Aguilera and many others pranced across the stage while Mcfarlanes predictably stereotypical approach to science (and scientists) was cringeworthy (ie. . How has it come to pass that now science awards must emulate the Oscars? Or can we expect these scientists gracing the MTV Awards next year? And the homage paid to the likes of Turing and Hawking--why not have the entire show hosted by Hawking!? For all the cinematic references made which render precious those alternative bodies and lives, we marginalize such people in real life--especially on center court, where it counts. Why not Hawkings computer voice for two hours presenting the awards?
