OK people (not necessarily you guys because all of you rock), when - TopicsExpress

OK people (not necessarily you guys because all of you rock), when you get a pet, it is a life long commitment. It is not an accessory or something to have fun with until it gets too big, too expensive, too time consuming, etc. Your pet is not something you get rid of because you have to move (especially if youre military. You KNOW you will move!) Im saying this because I belong to a rescue group in my area and the amount of animals being ditched for the stupidest reasons is appalling and heartbreaking. Most of these animals are being surrendered to the pound where they will more than likely be put down. What disgusts me is military families saying they are getting rid of their pet because they are PCSing. I have traveled with my pets all over the world including overseas. When you are in the military, you are aware that your orders may send you overseas. PCSing is not a valid reason to dump your pet at the pound. All it does is make the rest of the military who value our pets look bad and feed the stereotype. When you get a pet, make sure you are willing to commit to the care of that pet. Make sure you can handle another life being dependent on you. If you cant handle it, dont get a pet. It is heartbreaking to see people throw away their pets when their pets would never turn their back on them. Rant over.
