OK so im reading Euell Gibbons book stalking the wild asparagus - TopicsExpress

OK so im reading Euell Gibbons book stalking the wild asparagus and i am finding alot of things that contradict some of my own experiences. euell talks about common milkweed being extremely bitter and needs to be boiled three times and only with hot water never to be covered with cold water cause it locks the bitter taste in. i find this not true at all. milkweed even raw has a sweet taste to me and even the buds and young pods are very good i boil the shoots and eat them like asparagus but they have a snap pee or green bean flavor. I am not one to say that a man such as euell could be wrong or that maybe he misidentified a plant but i think just from my own exp euell may have been wrong and was eatting dogbane. which i have tasted and was extremely bitter there are also broad-leaf milkweed that is extremely bitter and IMHO should not be eaten. this is just some of the stuff off the top of me head there was many things in hes book that had me wondering what the hell he was talking about. he is a god among foragers but i am thinking that he was wrong on more than one or two plants in this book..... if any one has read this and may have some of the same thoughts plz leave a comment
