OK so several of my gun buddies have posted about the RIP ammo lately and I have weighed in on the side. Since I have seen this topic pop up again tonight with someone asking opinions I will say again and openly this time for anyone concerned. My opinion, for what its worth, after a ton of research is as follows. 1) Will it kill someone breaking into your house or attempting to cause you harm in a parking lot late at night? Yes I do believe it certainaly will. (Shot placement people!!! If you double tap the chest and head so will cheap FMJ) 2) Will it penetrate light wall construction and still be affective? Not from the test I have seen, but have preformed none if my own. simple drywall seems to clog the tip and reduce penetration into ballistic gel. 3) Is it safe? Not from the reviews I have seen/read. you have a limited number of rounds before a barrel replacement. When I say limited, I am talking about 50 rounds or so. Hence the reason I have done no personal testing. Conclusion.... Dont waste the money. Hornady critical defense is proven stopping power even in calipers as low as .380 with penetration beyond 16 through 3 layers of denim, and having a cavitation path of close to 3 at its max, with 97% weight retention. Therefore anything higher only gets better!! Youre welcome!!
