OK, to be as brief as possible. This 6 day cruise drew a decidedly more urban, rednecky, younger, less polished, rougher around the edges crowd than the 09/27 cruise. Mostly red and blue sail and sign cards. While most everyone was pleasant, it was quite obvious from the interaction (or lack thereof) between the passengers that a majority of them had not only never cruised before but probably have never gone anywhere outside of their everyday world. (This observation was confirmed in convos with a few more traveled members of some of the family/traveling groups.) Many of more traveled passengers also noticed the odd atmosphere among the passengers. The redneckers were from Tenn, GA, AL while the urban crowd (spell that thugs and ratchet hoes) were from innercity (the deep hood, some very projecty) Ohio, NYC, Philly, etc. neighborhoods. There was not much intermingling among the various passenger groups until the last few days. Then they started to relax a bit. Several states (Tenn, GA, Arizona and Colorado) had fall break for the schools this past week which explained the rather large number of children on board. However, I have no doubt that not every kid on that ship was from one of those states. There are parents (unfortunately, usually the more modest earners) who feel that an opportunity to cruise is a legitimate reason to miss school. I beg to differ. But that is not for me to say. My guess is that many of the people on this ship this week chose the 6 day cruise over a 7 day (same 5 work/school days used) because of the price (lower for 6 days). The casino was not overly utilized. The bars were not flowing with Cheers participants and a majority of the people in the club each night drank nothing at all. An 8 day cruise was probably out of the financial league of many of the 6 day cruisers. Some of the cruisers were just weird and not in a funny, knee-slap kinda way. Just odd. I changed tables twice until I finally settled on Anytime Dining which I enjoyed lots. I didnt spend a lot of time with any one person or group. I smiled and made jokes on occasion but went into loner mode for this cruise, which I also enjoy at times. All in all, this course was a very nice add-on to my 8 day vacay. However, going forward, I will make sure not to book a cruise during any school break or on any more 5 or 6 day cruises. I much prefer the experienced cruiser who is willing to spend a few more dollars to get an extra day or two on the ship. Seems to make the world of difference.
