PHILIPPINE STATISTICS AUTHORITY LEADS DUBAI SEMINAR ON CIVIL REGISTRATION, MARRIAGE AND FAMILY LAWS 06 May 2014 - The Philippine Consulate General (PCG) in Dubai and Northern Emirates hosted a Joint Seminar on Civil Registration, Marriage and Family Laws conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority and Gulf Law last April 26. The Joint Seminar featured Director Lourdes Hufana of the Philippine Statistics Authority and Atty. Barney Almazar of the Gulf Law with the Officers and Staff of the Consulate General headed by Consul Giovanni E. Palec, and members of the Filipino community as participants. Director Hufana discussed the Civil Registration System of the Philippines which includes registration of birth, solemnization of marriage, nullity of marriage and death. Clarifications on the process of lodging a petition for correction of clerical errors in civil registry documents were also made by Director Hufana to further enlighten the community on this issue. Atty. Almazar spoke on the Marriage and Family Laws of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as well as the Code of Muslim Personal Laws of the Philippines. Marriage and family issues such as divorce, wills and inheritance, claiming of benefits, and other similar issues were briefly discussed by Atty. Almazar for the awareness of the community. The seminar finished after the speakers satisfactorily answered an array of inquiries from the eager participants regarding legal and personal issues under the Philippine and UAE Laws. END
