OK – So I know this is going to bug some “Hicks fans”, but I just stumbled on this old article and then read all the below comments. I spent probably 16 years of my life totally devoted to promoting Bill, maybe from 1988 – 2004. In that time I came to realize that Bill is an acquired taste and even most of my Cousins, Aunts, Uncles never really got it and felt I was wasting my time. The point I’m trying to make - is that at any given time there are at best maybe a few million people on the entire planet who get Bill. SO - like it or not, there are millions who either don’t like him or simply don’t care. OK - I agree the guy that wrote this old post is an idiot, but I’m only using it as an example. Personally I would like to figure out why Bill’s audience has always had such a limited number of fans? But - no one ever talks bad about him? As a guy who spent many years working with Bill and then many years working to promote/preserve his memory - I actually appreciate being able to hear what it is that causes people not to like him. For me it would have been a way to adjust the marketing and messaging of a campaign to promote Bill. (Freshman & Sophomores save your breath) So what I am getting at – is if your really a Bill fan and you want more people to get into Bill - instead of creating an environment that people are afraid to say anything, wouldn’t allowing people to criticize him be more helpful to his legacy? Maybe it’s like gay marriage? Maybe it took a little bashing, but it ultimately it got legalized..
