OLD, BUT NEW Dear friend, you are being faithful to God when you care for the travelling teachers who pass through, even though they are strangers to you. 3 John 5 (NLT) This may sound like an old school message to you, but the word of God is never old; it is ever new. The effectiveness of Gods words in our lives is dependent on our attitudes toward it. God has not changed, and His words have not changed either. He demands from us as believers that we should care for strangers, especially itinerant (traveling) ministers of the gospel. Scriptures say: Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all especially to those who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:10 Do not forget to entertain strangers for by so doing, some have unwittingly entertained angels. Hebrews 13:2 The grass withers, the flower fades but the word of our God stands forever. Isaiah 40:8 What Abraham had desired for many decades but could not receive was given to him the day he entertained three strangers. Genesis 18 What if he did not? These days, hospitality has been whittled down to having love feast only with the brethren. But God expects more from us. While we may not always be able to give accommodation to every travelling minister of God (missionary) passing by our house, we will do well to bless them with our other resources as we are privileged by God. The Shunamite womans hospitality towards prophet Elisha made God give her a child when she had lost hope of having one. Read more about her in 2 Kings 4:8-37; 8:1-6 and take a decision today. Todays Memory Verse: And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward. Matthew 10:42 (NKJV) PRAYER POINT: Fill me with your kindness O Lord. Let me always see myself as my brothers keeper.
