“OLD CENTRAL SCHOOL STUDENS”, LONG COUNTY, GA A large number of folks that were prior students at Old Central School* are still around and many of those are living in Long County, Liberty County, Tattnall County, Wayne County, and in Communities in this general area as well as ‘just up the road’ and throughout the country that live in distant states. Most that I’ve spoken with recently has expressed a desire for a Central School Reunion or Homecoming. Is there an interest in having a Central School Reunion/Homecoming in the near future for all Prior Students that attended Central School? I understand there was at least one earlier Central School Reunion a few years back but lots of prior students I’ve talked with did not attend. Some of the reason given for not attending were “didn’t know about it”, “didn’t live in the area at that time” “It wasn’t in the local papers until after the reunion.” I lived in Long County at the time, but I and many others failed to know about it. I’ve discussed this with a local merchant, a prior student of Central School that owns and operates a local restaurant that is interested and could accommodate about 75-100 prior Central School Students (spouse or their guest). He could set aside his restaurant one evening should we select his establishment for a Reunion. A self-serve reasonably priced dinner could also be available for those that would want to dine in the facility. Recommended menu items to be served could also be arranged. A restaurant in Jesup could also be made available for the group with similar conditions if more than 75 prior Central School students (spouse or guest) show an interest. But first of all are there a sufficient number of prior students that are interested in having a Central School Reunion? If enough of us prior students want to have a reunion now would be a good time for us to begin. An old school reunion as you know can only happen if prior student wants it! (Our numbers continue to be less as age takes its toll) *Old Central School was located in North Long County on US Highway 301 between Ludowici and Pigot Branch Baptist Church. I visited the old school house area recently (that is now just a wooded area on the right side of US Highway 301) where I attended 7 years of school in the late 1940’s and graduated there in 1949 to Ludowici High School. Lots of our memories of the “good ole times (and\or the not so good)” were made and experienced at old Central School that we can never forget.
