Vacation, day 12, California Coast So many funny things happened today, but I’ll leave you this one little jewel. We’re in a small town, some-what run-down Safeway and there’s a young man behind us in line with only two items that I let go in front as he seemed a little twitchy. Dan, of course, starts talking to him and we get a 5 minute life story all the time noticing his overblown pupils and a few other note-worthy things. Getting back in the car, we remark to each other that we always see interesting things and people in small towns…. Dan: You can’t just go anywhere and get hickor twinkies. Me: What? (wondering if I heard him right) Dan: You know “hick or twinkies” Me: (after significant silence)…you mean “hickeyed tweekers? Dan: yah, that. Me: Laughing, no crying at him. Dan: What?!? You’re laughing at me! Me: No, I’m crying because I’m laughing so hard. Dan: Words are hard. Me: And now I’m wheezing, but he’s right…words are hard.
