OLD MAPLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS ON BEACON HILL Here is a picture of the old Maple School on 17th South that was demolished in 1982 after opening in 1910 - Building Style was similar to Beacon Hill, Georgetown Etc - but they all had distinctive looks despite being designed by the same architect. Also Maple was by far the largest of the South End Elementary Schools taking up one full City Block between 17th and 18th South as shown in the second photo with its upper and lower playgrounds along with 2 play courts. You were not allowed on the upper playground until 4th grade. Also shown is the original Maple Elementary in the 3rd photo with its history being as follows. 1900: Opened by Columbia School District 1907: Annexed into Seattle School District 1908: Closed in June; demolished Students who attended the 1900 Maple School that closed in 1908 were temporarily housed I believe at Georgetown Elementary until the 17th South Maple School opened in 1910 Enjoy!
