OLD OSWESTRY TIMELINE (source: English Heritage) The Neolithic or New Stone Age (c.4000BC – c.2300BC) Forest clearance probably began in the area as long ago as 3500BC when farming was introduced to Britain. People used axes made of very hard (igneous) rock or flint. Two such axes have been found at Old Oswestry. One of these is made from stone probably quarried at Charnwood Forest (Leics). Some flintwork of similar date was found during excavations. We do not know whether the hill was lived on during the Neolithic period or just visited on occasion.
